A quick two-month tour through
New Zealand
in 2005 was fabulous and brought the needed change in Lisette’s travels ‘Down Under’. What I loved most about this archipelago is the diversity of its nature. I saw beaches, mountains, glaciers, hot springs and volcanoes; just to name a few.
Lisette treasures the views locked up in her mind from the top of the
Tongariro Crossing
where she died a thousand deaths due to her fear of heights. Vastly different is the amazing
Queen Charlotte Track
close to Picton; what a magnificent place to hike.
New Zealand is the place to go for trekking and hiking!

Cape Reinga is the most northern top of New Zealand, a real must-see and must-do. I also went to historic Russell where Hone Heke took down the English flag four times between 1840-1844.
Learning about the Waitangi Treaty in Paihia
Paihia in the Bay of Islands was an interesting place to visit. I could ramble about the awesome dolphins, the murky Hole in the Rock and the famous Kauri forest, but my interest was to learn more about the Waitangi Treaty and its implementation.

Just arrived in Auckland, New Zealand’s economic hub on the Northern Island. As this hilly city is sprawled out, it’s apparently the fourth largest city of the world, I got to see a fair bit of town and grow some serious leg muscle!
