Marlowe is working with Associação de Mineiros Moçambicanos (AMIMO) to build their website; amimo.org, provide branding for their affiliate organization SAMA (South African Miner’s Association) and provide capacity building through training that will allow AMIMO to maintain and update amimo.org.
AMIMO is a miner’s rights association that has been set up by largely ex-Mozambican miners to support their colleagues and their families. The non-profit organization focuses on advocacy and lobbying the government to improve working conditions for Mozambican miners and better support for families when miners are killed on the job. AMIMO currently has a blog website. Marlowe will provide the link once amimo.org looks presentable.
Marlowe has been sent to Mozambique through Cuso International; a strategic partner of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). While Cuso has Country Program Offices in Latin America to develop partnerships with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and support volunteers locally, VSO has Country Program Offices in Africa and Southeast Asia. Here in Maputo, we are supported by VSO Mozambique.
